Description of the POI |
Bosiljevo, as well as many other destinations in the Karlovac County, was the home of the noble Frankopan Family. Many refer to Bosiljevo as “a century-old home of noble Frankopans”
Numerous generations of the Frankopan family ruled and lived in Bosiljevo for more than two centuries, and mostly lived in Bosiljevo Castle. On April 30, 1671, the last owner, Fran Krst Frankopan, together with Peter Zrinski, were beheaded in Wiener Neustadt, and the Frankopan rule ended. That is when the turning point for the Bosiljevo area came. After the tragic death of the last owner of the town of Bosiljevo, Fran Krsto Frankopan, and after an unprecedented robbery, a real battle arose for this town and property. Since then, attempts have been made to erase any mention of these Croatian nobles, which has caused the disappearance of many documents on the history of Bosiljevo and its owners. |
